as I am speaking to more people about the rat journals and opening myself up to others I have found that the question most often asked is "why rats?" rats were chosen as my medium because rats give us, as humans some of the greatest contributions. advancements in modern medicine yet, we look at them like they are street dwellers destined for scrounging. we leave a lasting impression upon things as humans, it is part of our nature. we chose rats because they react, behave and adapt to things humans adapt to as well. we use them despite knowing we will be studying the epigenetic stress we put on them during trials. but that is just another test to advance medicine for humans and the cycle continues. the unfortunate part is that even though rats make the ultimate sacrifice for science, we as humans are still put through trials like lab rats and are expected to behave as such. as someone who has felt like a lab rat for most of their life, rats seemed to be the most obvious choice. so that is "why rats?"
